Dr. Sean Markey is a professor with the School of Resource and Environmental Management at Simon Fraser University.
Research Interests: Sean's research focus is on issues of local and regional economic development, rural and small-town development, community sustainability, and natural infrastructure.
Role at PhiLab: Sean serves as a co-lead of the SSHRC-funded Rural Policy Learning Commons (RPLC) partnership project, and is a co-investigator of the SSHRC-funded Place-based Collective Endowments in the Periphery project.
Dr. David Peacock is the Director of Community Service-Learning in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta.
Research Interests: David's research focus is on learning by community service, community-university engagement policy and practice, and participation of 'first generation' students in experimental learning.
Role at PhiLab: David is partnering with the Carnegie Foundation for Teaching and Learning to research the extent of the foundation's investments in Canadian higher education (including rationales, funding, partners and legacy).
Dr. Catherine Pearl is an Assistant Professor in Social Innovation at Mount Royal University.
Research Interests: Catherine's research focus is on nonprofit management, social entrepreneurship and social innovation.
Role at PhiLab: Catherine is the Alberta lead of the Western Hub and brings a wealth of knowledge about the foundation sector in Alberta.
Dr. Jorge Sousa is an Associate Professor and Chair in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta.
Research Interests: Jorge's research focus is on strengthening Canada’s social economy, governance and member engagement of non-profit and co-operative organizations, and public policy related to community development.

Dr. Lynn Gidluck is the Community Director of the Community Research Unit at the University of Regina.
Research Interests: Lynn's research focus is on organizational communication, public policy and community-based research.

Dr. Iryna Khovrenkov is an Assistant Professor in Economics, JSGS Faculty, University of Regina.
Research Interests: Iryna's research focus is on philanthropic foundations and charitable giving, social finance and applied microeconomics.

Dr. Oscar Zapata is a professor in Economics at the University of Regina.
Research Interests: Oscar's research focus is on environmental economics, applied econometrics with specific emphasis in the economics of water, climate change and social inequalities.
Role at PhiLab: Oscar contributes his quantitative skills to study the role of the philanthropic sector and its impact on social inequalities and environmental challenges.
Dr. Sara Penner is an assistant professor in Business & Admin at the University of Manitoba
Research Interests: Sara's research focuses on non-profits and includes area's such as memorial giving and direct mail fundraising.

A PhD student at the Centre for the Study of Philanthropy in the University of Kent in Canterbury, England. She received an MA in history from the University of Victoria in 2016, and a BA in history (honours) with a minor in Indigenous Studies from Mount Royal University, Calgary in 2014.
Research Interests: My research interests include the role of Western philanthropy in Canada's story of settler colonialism, bringing Indigenous studies and settler colonial studies into dialogue with the study of philanthropy.
